Halloween is now always on our schedule for Noggin outreach, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in Northeast Portland is one of the most creative places to spend the day!

We brought a large contingent of excited volunteers to King, many in costume! Participants included Alyssa Showalter, Kayla Dagnino, Xander Hawkins, Maha Mukhtar, Pearl Ton, E Mondragon-Torres, Hana Haley, Kirby Kahl, Jennifer Logan, Ilyarah Motley and Alex Heinrich from Portland State University!
We joined forces with King parent and OHSU Oregon Permanent Contraception Research Center researcher Philberta (Phil!) Leung, who brought along some additional noggins for display!

We’ve watched our own institutions act a bit like zombies lately, with PSU firing undergraduate teachers, leaving protected tenured faculty in terror of (bwa-ha-ha!) entering classrooms, and OHSU dissolving the Brain Institute, leaving only an empty social media hashtag from central communications.

But on Halloween we avoided all the resource-hungry administrative vampires to spend a truly joyous, innovative day with some creatively costumed first through fifth graders at King!
