Pipe Cleaner Brain Cells!

One of Northwest Noggin’s signature art projects!

We love crafting new neurons and glia out of pipe cleaners (or chenille stems), which are widely and affordably available in North American public schools.

What should I make?

You can craft ANY type of brain cell, including a cone photoreceptor!

Or how about a taste receptor?

Or a cortical pyramidal cell?

Or one of the recently discovered “rose hip” inhibitory neurons from human cortex!

Perhaps a Pacinian corpuscle responding to pressure in the deeper layers of skin..?

Or a Meissner’s corpuscle that lets you detect light touch?

So many options..!

What color is your…neuron?

Glial cells too! They make up half the cells in your brain!
