Northwest Noggin returns to DC!
This month we are honored to join Oregon’s Roundhouse Foundation along with a host of incredible rural, arts and tribal representatives at the National Arts Summit in Washington DC, organized by the National Endowment for the Arts and the White House Office of Domestic Policy!
“This national convening brings together leaders from various sectors, including government officials; policymakers; artists; advocates; academics; and philanthropic, labor, and community leaders to explore ideas, policies, and actions that can elevate the arts and humanities across the nation. In particular, the summit will delve into how the arts contribute to health and well-being, invigorate physical spaces, fuel democracy, and foster equitable outcomes.”

We are thrilled to participate thanks to a generous invitation from Roundhouse, a fantastic nonprofit supporting programs that inspire creativity, connect people with each other and their sense of place, and ensure sustainability for the long-term economic success of Oregon’s rural communities.

Roundhouse helped fund Noggin interdisciplinary neuroscience outreach in rural and Native communities last year, and made it possible for undergraduates from Portland State University to present on their STEM + Arts (STEAM) efforts in Congress and at the annual Society for Neuroscience conference, and also to volunteer and make art, share stories and discuss neuroscience research with K-8 students in DC public schools!

In Washington we’ll meet Oregon’s U.S. Senators, four Oregon Representatives (including Suzanne Bonamici, Chair of the Congressional STEAM caucus), Chuck Sams (the first Native American Director of the National Park Service) and Shelly C. Lowe (the Chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities), among others!
This is an extraordinary opportunity to share Northwest Noggin STEAM engagement in rural and Native communities, along with the innovative interdisciplinary neuroscience minor at Portland State University.
THANK YOU ROUNDHOUSE FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
