This is Our Story, by Kit Carlton

What is a memory? Memories make us who we are, connect us with other people and shape everything about “us.” But how does an event, an interaction, an idea stick in our head (presumably forever)..?

The mechanisms in the brain that lead to actual memory formation – and our ability to recall these memories – are messy, complex, and unclear. A recent hypothesis that has taken everyone by surprise is the possibility that in order for a memory to be formed, our DNA has to break into two pieces, and fix itself, essentially “writing” memories with our genes.

Humans have long employed various modes of pictography and visual speech to encode and record our personal/cultural histories and memories. Traditionally, poetry is considered one of the most effective vehicles for conveying and remembering these messages…

Getting really stoked and hyped over this event ya’ll! Bet you can’t tell, huh? @dysney11 and I will be Breaking it Down—talking about the abstraction of encoding memories on 10/15. The event lasts from 6-8 and you can even hold a real human brain in your hands thanks to the swell folks over @nwnoggin ! I cannot wait! How freaking cool is that?
