Sciencepalooza!

Robots, earthquakes, infrared technology, math games, slime, and more came to Meriwether Lewis Elementary School in Portland last month  –  along with some Noggin brains!

Susan Rosenkranz, a medical anthropologist, graphic designer and Lewis parent organized the school’s first Sciencepalooza, a new PTA sponsored event featuring interactive STEAM based activities for parents and students to explore together.

We’d met Susan at the Noggin Art + Science panel with Kindra Crick at the Littman + White Galleries at Portland State University in January.

Susan saw a need and stepped up, volunteering her time and effort to create this extraordinary educational community celebration!

Kids and parents lined up around the gym to ask questions of our volunteers, who included Maverick Johnson, Jordan Ray, Madi-Cho Richmond, Mary Lerner and Aaron Eisen from PSU…

This was a busy night for brains, as we immediately followed up Sciencepalooza with more art, music and brains at the second annual NOGGIN FEST! This two day festival featured thirteen live bands, fantastic science inspired art, and compelling research talks on imagine, autism and ADHD…

Our sincere thanks to Susan, and Lewis students, teachers, staff and families for welcoming us to school!

From Susan: “I’m reporting on our event feedback survey at tomorrow’s PTA meeting. You’ll be *surprised* to learn that NW Noggin’s table was THE most enjoyed activity (n=19), with 65.4% of the responses (52 respondents–mostly parents; respondents could select more than one activity category). The next most favorite was PSU’s earthquake engineering (shake table activity) at 57.7%.”
