Bill wins the 2017 John Eliot Outstanding Teaching Award

If you have ever met a more enthusiastic teacher than Bill I might have a hard time believing it! I have had the pleasure of teaching with Bill for the past five years, and I can honestly say that he is the best teacher I have witnessed in my academic career. As anyone who has watched him teach can attest, his commitment to his students and the excitement he brings to his teaching are apparent in everything he does.

With that I am extremely proud to announce that Bill has been awarded Portland State University’s 2017 John Eliot Allen Outstanding Teaching Award!

The award was established in 1998 by Dr. Scott Burns, Professor Emeritus of Geology, to recognize exceptional teaching and leadership in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.  It is named in honor of John Eliot Allen, an outstanding professor who taught for more than 35 years.

One of the special things about this award is that its awardees are chosen by students, which really speaks to Bill’s dedication and enthusiasm for teaching. In fact Bill has also won previously in 2013, 2010 and 2007 (eligibility is limited to every three years).

At his request, the $500 award check will go to NW Noggin outreach volunteers planning to bring brains and art to DC this fall. I want to invite everyone to join me in both congratulating and thanking Bill!
