“Alive Inside” memory and music night at WSUV

September 22, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The movie “Alive Inside!” will be shown in the WSU Vancouver auditorium.  We’ll follow the screening with a panel of NW Noggin volunteers.  Here’s a complete list of our confirmed  panel participants…
Bill Griesar, Instructor and Outreach Coordinator, Neuroscience, WSU Vancouver;  Neuroscience Director, nwnoggin.org
Jeff Leake, artist, Instructor and Outreach Coordinator, Neuroscience, WSU Vancouver;  Arts Director, nwnoggin.org
Megan Slaker, graduate student, Neuroscience, WSU Vancouver (research interests:  memory, drugs, peri-neuronal nets)
John Harkness, post-doctoral student, Neuroscience, WSU Vancouver (research interests:  genes, drugs, brains, behavior)
Angela Johnson, graduate of WSU Vancouver, Neuroscience outreach participant, Alzheimer’s caregiver
Sarah Neveux, graduate of WSU Vancouver, Neuroscience outreach participant
Angela Gonzalez, undergraduate in Neuroscience, WSU Vancouver, Neuroscience outreach participant
Jeff and I will start with general comments about the brain and behavior, development and decline, and why music and art might provoke such powerful emotions and help to improve mood, engagement and perhaps bring out some explicit memories, depending on the damage already suffered by individual patients with AD.
Our panelists will also introduce themselves, and their own areas of expertise.  Questions from the audience (addressed to any of us) are very welcome about any topic related to dementia, the brain, behavior, genes, drugs, music or art… 🙂
We’ll also have real brains (extra brains!) to examine up close.
