Our Noggin volunteers from WSU Vancouver and Portland State headed up interstate 5 today for an afternoon discussing neurons, networks, and the functional contributions of different brain regions with 180 curious students at CAM Junior and Senior High School in Battle Ground, WA…
Our talented undergrads took charge of the microphone, and engagingly explained the role of our frontal, parietal, occipital, temporal and more hidden insular lobes, and confidently fielded compelling questions about adolescent brain development, brain changes under hypnosis, actions and effects of alcohol, and what happens during sleep…
Alli Probst, a CAM high school senior, and frequent NW Noggin volunteer, organized and led the event, and prepared colorful overheads illustrating relevant aspects of brain anatomy…
…while area undergraduates Alex Voigt, Lauren Wilgus, Amanda Yancey, Kayla Stippich, Grace Hoinowski, Chelsey Taylor Anderson, and Rosalie Lee offered numerous examples of specific structure and function relationships in neural networks spanning multiple lobes.
And of course, the students had the opportunity to ask more questions, while directly holding and examining some human brains…
Another memorable and educational brain building experience for all involved…
