SUMMARY:TextileX: Noggin + PLACE Gallery
DESCRIPTION:WHAT: Stitching Networks @ PLACE Gallery for Textile Month! \nWe did it!\nHow to embroider your brain cell\n \n \nWHERE: PLACE Gallery\, 735 NW 18th Ave\, Portland\, OR 97209 \nWHEN: Friday\, October 21\, 6:30pm – 8:00pm\n(Noggin arrives 6:00pm for set up) \n \nTextileX and the Portland TextileX Month Festival are part of a social enterprise founded and organized by Textile Hive to build community and foster cross-pollination among textile enthusiasts\, artists\, businesses\, schools\, and cultural organizations. \n \nPLACE is a Portland-based landscape design firm. The exhibition is held at their studio. It is an artist-in-residence and production is open to the public. \n \nNoggin will bring brains and offer a hands-on art project creating a network of neurons using fabric and sewing textiles. We’ll explore brain cell regeneration to complement this year’s TextileX theme of Regeneration. \n \n \nLEARN MORE: Embracing Connections Workshop with Northwest Noggin \nJoin artist Kindra Crick and NW Noggin in the gallery for a delightful workshop exploring brain cell regeneration to complement TextileX’s 2022 theme. NW Noggin will bring brains and offer a hands-on art project creating a network of neurons using fabric and sewing textiles. Regeneration and learning reestablish and creates new connections in our minds. \n \nThe human mind with its 86 billion neurons is a resilient force for adaptation and regeneration through its ever-changing landscape of connections. In magnifying and re-imagining these hidden molecular structures\, multimedia artist Kindra Crick aims to evoke wonder and offer an imagined vision of the spectacular biological machinery which comprises the very core of our memories\, sensations\, thoughts and our essential sense of self. \n \nCOMMITTED PARTICIPANTS \n\nBill Griesar\, NW Noggin/PSU/OHSU\nJeff Leake\, NW Noggin/PSU\nMarc Chenard\, PSU\nAnna Traylor\, PSU\nJosie Borden\, PSU\nMartin Lembke\, PSU\nFULL

I have two children of my own and all they could talk about Friday evening was the brains! And I went to a soccer game over the weekend and several MLK Parents approached me asking about the brain activity and how cool they thought it was. They mentioned that their kindergartener was explaining at home that ‘there is a line that runs from my toes to my head and my brain makes my toes work!'” \nI am surprised and overjoyed at the response to your visit. I sincerely hope you consider returning to Dr MLK Jr again next fall. TO all of the students\, I wish you the best in your studies!” \nSincerely\, Teresa Seidel\, Principal\, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School
