Can a few doses of psilocybin help patients with treatment resistant depression? Why is MDMA therapy showing an 83% level of efficacy in treating PTSD while current treatments\, at most\, show only a 25% level of efficacy? How can ayahuasca regulate dopamine levels for people living with substance use disorders? What are the dangers and challenges associated with psychedelic use in a recreational or therapeutic environment? Please don’t wear blue. No t- shirts with logos (unless NW Noggin!). Comfortable closed toed shoes. No wire bras. Bring only an ID (and the approved supplies). There is a locker you can use for any other personal items.\n \nNW Noggin volunteers will bring extra brains\, skulls and art to the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility\, a multi-custody prison accommodating all women inmates in Oregon. Isolation is worsened by degrading rhetoric from political leaders and pundits who protect privileges\, often by dehumanizing others. \nInequality can also lead to the violation of human rights\, and violence. \n \nValparaíso\, Chile\, home to both a long history of neuroscience research and astonishing art traditions\, is currently targeted by a repressive and authoritarian government\, whose leader\, billionaire Sebastian Piñera\, has declared “war” (guerra) on those protesting injustice. \nNoggin partnered with Chilean artist/educator Cecilia Araneda to teach how the art of “arpilleras\,” the sewing of embroidery and patchwork to depict aspects of life\, has helped many express traumatic experiences and contribute to the memory of significant national violations of human rights. \n \nWe participated in a public radio interview and displayed arpilleras and human brains at Street 14 Café during an “Art Walk” in Astoria\, Oregon\, and discussed neuroscience research on stress\, trauma\, memory\, dehumanized perception\, resilience and recovery. \n \nWe then presented and crafted our own arpilleras at p:ear\, a critical community center for support of Portland Oregon youth who lack access to safe\, stable housing\, while answering questions about behavior and the brain.
