SUMMARY:Noggin @ SfN: Brain Awareness Campaign Event (N226)
DESCRIPTION:WHAT: Noggin Poster Presentation @ SfN\, Brain Awareness Campaign Event \n \nWHERE: McCormick Place\, 2301 S King Dr\, Chicago\, IL 60616; Room N226 \nWe did it!\n \n \n \n \nWHEN: Saturday\, October 19\, 2:30 – 4:00pm \nWE BROUGHT REAL (EXTRA!) HUMAN BRAINS\, thanks to the exceptional Yuri Sugano of the University of Chicago. This was the first time in the 50 year history of SfN that actual brain specimens were presented at the annual conference! \n \nSo many questions at the Brain Awareness Event! \n \n“You ask the world\, and the world says no\nIt’s the world’s refrain\, mine says go…”\n ―John Gorka \nOnce again\, it is incredible to GO BEYOND “#scitalk” marketing efforts and canned “elevator pitches” of many large institutions  –  and try genuine #scicomm plus action:  going places\, listening\, sharing stories\, making art and challenging and examining all our brains… \n \n“I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.” ―Maya Angelou \nLEARN MORE ABOUT OUR APPROACH: Synapsing in San Diego @ SfN! \nLEARN MORE: Thankful for brains \nLEARN MORE: BioGifting Brains \nNW Noggin:  Corrections\, bias and brains\n \n \nGRIESAR\, W.S.* **\, LEAKE\, J.* ** *** \n“All is in motion\, is growing\, is you” – Joy Harjo \nTeenagers undergo consequential brain changes\, responding to environments and making mistakes. They are not adults. How others react impacts development\, benefiting or undermining the trajectory of young lives. This year NW Noggin visited Oregon’s MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility\, and discussed trauma\, anxiety\, emotional regulation\, bias in judicial and law enforcement\, and what role neuroscientists might play in reform. \n* Department of Psychology\, Portland State University;  ** NW Noggin (nwnoggin.org);  *** Department of University Studies\, Portland State University \n \nLEARN MORE: All is in motion\, is growing\, is you \nLEARN MORE: Corrections\, Bias & Brains \nNW Noggin offered the keynote address at the 2018 SfN Brain Awareness Campaign Event in San Diego! Learn more at the links below… \nSynapsing in San Diego @ SfN!\n \nLEARN MORE: SfN18 Celebrates Brain Awareness \nLEARN MORE: Noggin Keynote @ SfN Brain Awareness Campaign Event \nThe Portland State University Neuroscience Club is also presenting their own poster on outreach efforts at the Brain Awareness Campaign Event!
